The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
1 Timothy 5:17–18
Verses such as 1 Timothy 5:17–18, 1 Corinthians 16:1–2, and others admonish the believer to supply for the local church. While not a mandatory tithe like the ones imposed upon the nation of Israel in the Old Testament, voluntary ‘cheerful’ (2 Corinthians 9:7) gifts enable the the local church to support its pastor and ministries for its members, the community, and beyond!
